Three metallic surfaces were investigated as conversion surface.
- tungsten single crystal (110)
- tantalum single crystal (110)
- tantalum foil
The tungsten surface served as a performance test and as reference
for the ILENA apparatus and was also used used as a neutralization
surface in the NICE setup where mainly angular scattering was of interest.
The tantalum foil was tested because of its availability (all the
mounting parts for the surface were made of tantalum). To compare
the results with tungsten single crystals a tantalum single crystal
was investigated.
