Earlier measurements on polished natural diamond [8,9] and on chemical vapor deposited (CVD) diamond on Si substrate were promising except for the high cost of the natural diamond and the wide angular scattering of the CVD diamond. Thus a new B-doped CVD diamond on Si(100) sample was obtained. The surface of this sample was polished to the maximum extent possible and passivated by exposing the diamond to a hydrogen atmosphere at high temperature. The size of this sample (25.5mm diameter) was large enough to be directly used in the NICE prototype described in Chapter 6. A recent review of CVD diamonds may for example be found in .
